Spotsylvania County is in the Northern Virginia region of Virginia, midway between the state capital at Richmond and the nation's capital in Washington, D.C. It is bordered on the north by the Rappahannock River.
Spotsylvania County offers 200 years of history, including Spotsylvania Courthouse Battlefield and the Chancellor Battlefield Civil War battlefield parks, operated by the National Park Service.
The county is home to Lake Anna State Park, located on one of Virginia's largest lakes and offers outstanding fishing boating, hiking and picnicking. The Rappahannock River is ideal for canoeing and rafting. Portions of the river near the fall line at Fredericksburg is whitewater.
