The city of Manassas is in Prince William County. Manassas originated in 1852 at the junction of two railroads that linked Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., with the Shenandoah Valley and Richmond. The First Battle of Bull Run, aka the First Battle of Manassas, was the first major land battle of the American Civil War.
Because of its junction of the railroads, it became important to control this region, and it was in Union possession during most of the war. Old Town Manassas Stroll features narrow streets and visual charm of turn-of-the-century architecture.
