GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Artifacts from the nation’s oldest shipyard, as well as memorabilia relating to the armed forces of the area, and exhibits portraying the lifestyles of 18th and 19th centry Portsmouth.
Contains artifacts of naval history, primarily from the Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, the oldest shipyard in America. See ship models, artillery, uniforms, and much more. Price of ticket admits you to both the Naval Shipyard Museum and the Lightship PORTSMOUTH Museum.
PARKING: 2 wheelchair accessible parking spaces, on High Street. Nearby ramps well marked.
TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION: Paved, brick and concrete. Paths accessible to persons with mobility disabilities.
ENTRANCE: On High Street - entrance marked with constrasting apron. 2 entry doors, 28 in. wide, easily open out with grab handle. Steps to 2nd floor library. Handrails.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: On the first floor, inaccessible to wheelchairs. Door 22 in. wide, opens out. Turn to enter. Stall door opens in. Handrail. 17 in. seat height. 10 in. between commode and wall. Sink Ht: 32 in. Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.
SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities, there is one audio tape exhibit. Signs are printed with a sharp contrast to background color, and printed on a non-glossy surface. Staff will accompany and interpret as needed.
