I-64, to I-264 West to downtown, take Waterside Drive Exit.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Nauticus is a fun and exciting interactive science center with a maritime theme and features more than 150 exhibits including computer and video interactives, giant screen films, exotic aquaria, touch pools and shark petting, and the USS Wisconsin, a retired Navy battleship.

Interactive science and technology center exploring the power of the sea, featuring interactive exhibits, films on a giant screen, exotic aquaria, touch pools, shark touching, and traveling exhibits. Nauticus is also home to the Battleship Wisconsin, the Hampton Roads Naval Museum.

PARKING:  5 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Ramps and aisles with no steep grades.

ENTRANCE:  In front of building.  Handrails on left and right.  Ramps  provided.  Glass entry doors, 42 in. wide, open out with clearly marked bar handle 40 in. above floor.  Steps in lobby, located throughout.  Handrails.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  1st, 2nd and 3rd floors.  Doors 36 in. wide, open in.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 33 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, 10 in. between commode  and wall.  Sink height 34 in, pipes wrapped.  Accessible stall checked for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.  Unisex and/or companion assisted rest room available at the public rest room.

ELEVATOR:  Wheelchair accessible elevator with sound indicator.  Interior of car is 80 in. by 65 in. Two elevators with access to 2nd floor and 3rd floor

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing disabilities, there are closed-captioned exhibits throughout the building. Assisted listening devices available upon request in Nauticus theater. (Please let the theater staff know prior to show starting that you will require the ALD.)  Movie scripts available, check out at the admissions desk. Sign Language interpreters can be provided with a minimum of two-weeks notice. Please call The Director of Visitor Operations a 757-664-1019 to place a request or the Group Sales Manager at 757-664-1021 for a group visit of 15 or more people.

For guests with visual disabilities, there are hands-on exhibits       utilizing buttons, roll balls, wheels and handles.   

For guests with mobility disabilities, there is wheelchair accessibility throughout the building and on board the main deck of the Battleship Wisconsin. Wheelchairs for guests available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved spaces in the Nauticus Theater and in Design Chamber: Battleship X.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:  Located at Galley Restaurant.  50 tables for customers in wheelchairs.  Table height 31 in.  Aisles between tables 36 in. wide. 

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 36 in. wide.  Counters 36 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Accepted credit cards:  V, MC and AE.  Hours:  10-6 daily Memorial Day-Labor Day.  10-5 Tu-Sun Fall and Winter.  Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Admission fee.
