Bristol lies directly on the Virginia/Tennessee state line. Known as "The Birthplace of Country Music," the town was the location of the first country music recordings made for national distribution. In August, 1927 the Victor Recording Company hosted two weeks of recording sessions that influenced generations of country, bluegrass, gospel, and rock and roll musicians with the discovery of Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family, and Ernest "Pop" Stoneman.
