GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  The Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum offers an interactive, hands-on experience for families, which focuses on the science, mathematics, humanities and the arts. Explore the exhibits in natural history, paleontology, simple machines, and art-in-the-making. Experience Native American culture in A Stop along the Moccasin Trail. Pretend to be a medical professional in the emergency room of Our Town or learn the laws of motion while racing balls down ramps and through loops in Raceways. At the Discovery Museum to touch is to explore, to explore is to discover, and to discover is to learn.

PARKING:  1 designated accessible parking space, located across downtown walking mall - very close.  Accessible parking space 13 ft. wide. Metered street parking is available in various locations around Old Town Winchester. The Braddock Street Autopark is also located nearby and offers excellent parking rates. TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION:  Concrete/brick outside - carpeted inside.

ENTRANCE:  Level entrance off of downtown walking mall.  Glass entry door, 35 in. wide, easily opens in with clearly marked metal handle located 32 in. above floor.  Steps inside lobby, located to the right into gift shop.  Each step 8 in. high and marked with tactile strip/color change. 

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  In back of building off of large open area.  Available without steps.  Doors 36 in. wide, open out.  No turns to enter.  Wheelchair accessible stalls with handrails.  17 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 32 in.  Wrapped pipes.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Unisex or companion assisted rest rooms available.  Rest rooms identified by raised figures with pants or skirt on the door to designate men or women.

For guests with visual disabilities, there are hands-on exhibits and signs in large print, with contrasting background, printed on a non-glossy surface. 

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 23 - 50 in. wide.  Counters 8 in. to 6 ft. high. Offers science kits, art kits, musical instruments, wooden puzzles, outdoor exploration, toys, baby toys, museum t-shirts and other logo items.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Admission fee.  Hours:  9 - 5 Tus - Sat, 1- 5 Sun. Closed Mon.
