GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A National Historic Landmark, with over 4400 acres, cabins, camping and restaurant. It was one of the original six state parks of Virginia.
A traditional family park for more than 70 years, Douthat is listed on the National Register of Historic Places because its design influenced the development of parks nationwide. Amid some of Virginia’s most breathtaking mountain scenery, visitors enjoy miles of stream fishing, a 50-acre lake stocked with trout, a sandy swimming beach with snack bar, boat and bicycle rentals, a gift shop and camp store, and cabins.
PARKING: 5 wheelchair accessible parking spaces, and 1 wheelchair accessible parking space with 96 inch accessible aisle.
ENTRANCE TO VISITOR CENTER: Located main office. Entry doors 35 in. wide, easily open in with handle located 38 in. above floor.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: At beach. Doors are 28 in. wide, and open in. Turns to enter. Accessible stalls have 28 in. wide doors opening out.
SPECIAL SERVICES: For guests with mobility disabilities, playground equipment at Camp Malone Picnic Shelter is accessible. Wheelchair accessible ramp down into lake at swimming area. Amphitheater with wheelchair accessible ramp to main stage.
Two universally accessible fishing piers on a lake stocked with rainbow, brown and brook trout. The lake also offers excellent largemouth bass fishing and fair opportunities for landing sunfish, black crappie, and channel catfish.
PICNIC AREAS: Picnic areas have 4 tables for guests in wheelchairs, 28 in. high. The paths to and within the picnic areas are level ground with grass and loose gravel. There are covered shelters.

Camp Carson Shelter 2 can accommodate 70 people under the shelter. Restroom is universally accessible via ramp approximately 100 feet from shelter. No electricity, but water is available.
CONCESSIONS: Lakeview Restaurant and camp store with paved entrance way and the restaurant porch dining area has an accessible ramp.
CAMPGROUND: Bath house accessible without steps. Pull thru sites available.
Beaver Dam, White Oak and Whispering Pines campgrounds have accessible campsites with bathhouse accessibility. Beaver Dam has 14 mostly shaded RV or tent sites (five pull-throughs) with gravel pads, electricity and water, no sewer hookups at site. The campground has dump stations, showers and flush toilets.
White Oak has 31 mostly shaded RV or tent sites with gravel pads, electricity and water with no sewer hookups at site. The campground has dump stations, showers and flush toilets.
Whispering Pines offers 23 RV or tent sites with gravel pads, electricity and water, no sewer hookups at site. The campground has dump stations, showers and flush toilets. A playground is nearby.
LODGING: Located at Creasy Lodge. Ramp provided. 4 doors 35 in. in width, easily open in with door handle 37 in. above floor. Accommodations: Bed on a frame with no obstructions underneath. Unneeded furniture can be removed. 60 in. circular clear space in room and bathroom. Grab bars in tub. Wheelchair accessible toilet is 19 inches high with room for lateral transfer. Handrails with toilet. Lever handles on doors.
Creasy Lodge is a one story wood-frame lodge is next to the park office. It accommodates up to 18 guests. There are five bedrooms: one queen bed, two sets of bunk beds, two sets of bunk beds, two sets of bunk beds, two sets of bunk beds. It has a fireplace and three bathrooms. Two have a sink, toilet and tub-shower combination. The third is accessible to the disabled and has a sink, toilet and tub-shower combination.
Cabins 29 and 30 - Fully universally accessible with paved, accessible patio. Check-in for cabins 3PM, camping 4PM, check-out for cabins 10AM, camping 3PM. Call 1-800-933-7275 for reservations.

Although motorized vehicles are not permitted on park trails, electric wheelchairs and electric scooters that meet the federal definition for wheelchairs are allowed to enable people with disabilities to use the trails.
