GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Big Meadows Lodge offers accommodations ranging from rooms in the main lodge, to fully furnished rustic cabins, to cozy suites and comfortable rooms offering views of the majestic mountains. The original lodge was built in 1939 with stones cut from the Massanutten Mountain and the entire interior structure of the lodge, including the paneling, is made from native chestnut trees, which today are virtually extinct. The lodge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Full service dining, family activities, nightly entertainment and conducted Park Ranger programs offered.
PARKING: 1 wheelchair accessible parking space in front of Main Lodge Building. Space 8 ft. wide. Ramp area.
ENTRANCE: Ramp in place, 2 entry doors, 36 in. wide, easily open out with clearly marked knob handle located 42 in. above floor.
FACILITIES: Lowered drinking fountain. Luggage handling available. Non-smoking rooms. Menus and/or documents in large print on non-glossy surface.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Lobby near dining room, registration office and restaurant area, and on lower level near taproom and meeting room. Door 36 in. wide, opens in. Turns to enter. Unisex or companion assisted rest room. 19 in. toilet seat height, 16 in. between commode and wall. Sink height 36 in. Wrapped pipes. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.
ELEVATOR: Wheelchair accessible elevator provides access to taproom, rest rooms and meeting room.
ACCOMMODATIONS: 3 wheelchair accessible rooms, each with 1 double bed on a frame with no obstruction beneath. Unnecessary furniture removed upon request. 60 inch circular clearspace in room and in bath. Bathroom door is 36 in. wide. Wheelchair accessible toilet is 19 inches high with room for lateral transfer. Grab bar in tub. Sink height 36 in. Wrapped pipes. Handrail with toilet.
RESTAURANT: All tables accommodate guests in wheelchairs. Table height 32 in., aisle width between tables is 42 in.
SAFETY PROCEDURES: Wheelchair guests assigned to first floor rooms. Front desk personnel made aware of guests with disabilities, and their type, in case of emergency.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Most credit cards accepted. Check-out Noon. Pet-friendly rooms are available. While there are no in-room phones, cell service is available depending on your provider. Free Wi-fi is available in all guest rooms. The Spottswood Dining Room, New Market Taproom, and Craft Shop are located in the main lodge building. Free, family-friendly entertainment is presented nightly in the New Market Taproom. Accessible Limberlost Trail at milepost 4.3, near Skyland.
