GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  One time home of Stonewall Jackson and is the only home that Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson ever owned. It is where he lived while he taught at the Virginia Military Institute immediately before the Civil War. Come see how Stonewall Jackson's prewar home has been carefully preserved for future generations. The museum shop features items that are of the 19th-century or are related to Jackson, the Civil War, and the local area. The historic garden contains many heritage fruits and vegetables as well as many heritage rose bushes.

PARKING:  Street parking only, level at building. A ten minute parking space located across the street from the museum is available for two hours to visitors who have a disabled parking placard or disabled license plate.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Gravel, exposed aggregate pavers or brick with no steep grades.  Paths are 50 ft. long.

ENTRANCE:  Doors 34 in. wide, open in with lever handle 34 in. above floor.  

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Ground floor.  Doors are 29 in. wide, and open out.  Turns to enter.  Handrails.  6 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height is 31 in.  Unisex and/or companion assisted rest room available at the public rest room.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities, there are hands-on exhibits such as reproduction artifacts for tactile experience.  A three-dimensional floor plan of the house is available.  Signs printed with contrasting background, on a non-glossy surface. 

For guests with mobility disabilities, second floor is not wheelchair accessible, but a video program of the inaccessible parts of the tour is available.

For guests with hearing disabilities, there is a printed copy of tour script available and captioned video.

MUSEUM SHOP:  Aisles 60 in. wide.  Counters 36 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Admission Fee.  Group rates available.  Hours:    Open Mon-Sat 9am-5pm. (last tour at 4:30pm), Sun 1pm-5pm. (last tour at 4:30pm). Closed Jan and Feb except for groups. Open January 15, 2011 for Lee-Jackson Day and January 21, 2011 for Jackson's Birthday. Closed Christmas Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving. Early closing at 3 pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
