DIRECTIONS: I-95, exit 130A to Route 3 East. Follow Business Route 3 past the University of Mary Washington. Continue on Business Route 3 (William Street) to Charles Street. Turn right on Charles Street. The museum is housed in a one-story brick building on the right. On-street parking is available.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  President James Monroe started his law practice in Fredericksburg. The James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library offers an opportunity to see the fine decorative art collections of James and Elizabeth Monroe. Monroe memorabilia, exhibits and special events.  Museum shop.

ENTRANCE:  On Charles Street.  Glass entry doors, 37 in. wide, easily open in with clearly marked loop and thumb latch handle located 30 in. above floor.  Interior step in lobby, to left of entrance.  Step is 8 in. high and marked with tactile strip/color change.

For guests with hearing disabilities, there are signing interpreters available with advance notice.  Written scripts are available with advance notice.

For guests with visual disabilities, there are hands-on exhibits such as costumes and special tours with advance notice, and documents in large print on non-glossy surface. 

For guests with mobility disabilities, the paths are brick, 30 ft. long, with no steep grades.  One step up into three galleries off lobby.

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 59 in. wide.  Counters 30 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays. The Museum Store features a variety of selections related to President Monroe and his era, including books, toys, educational items, puzzles, craft items, and the White House Historical Association Christmas ornament.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  V and MC accepted.  Admission fee.  Hours: Mon-Sat 10-5, Sun 1-5. December through February, the museum closes at 4. Closed New Years Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
