GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Experience 18th century life at Wilton, Richmond's own Georgian plantation manor house. Built in 1753 for the family of William Randolph III, Wilton was originally the center of a 2,000 acre self-sufficent tobacco plantation on the banks of the James River. Wilton is home to a rich collection of 18th and early 19th century furnishings, portraits, silver, ceramics, and textiles. Visitors to the house included George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the Marquis de Lafayette.
PARKING: Located down a graveled path to the left of the house. Nearby ramp well marked and placed so that it cannot be blocked by another vehicle. RV parking.
TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION: Brick sidewalk. Paths accessible to persons with mobility disabilities. Steep grades may require assistance for persons in wheelchairs.
ENTRANCE: Front entrance has 16 steps, side entrance has 7 steps, each 6 in. high. Handrails on left/rt. Double entry door with knob, opening out. Steps inside foyer. Handrails on left and rt.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Located in the house down 1 flights of stairs. Acessible bathroom in attached building. Doors open out. No turns to enter. Accessible stalls with 33 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails. 19 in. toilet seat height. Sink height 35 in. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions. Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women. Unisex and/or companion assisted rest room available at the public rest room.
GIFT SHOP: Aisles clear of temporary displays.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Tu-Sat 10-4:30, Sun 1:30-4:40. Closed Mondays and national holidays. Admission fee. Group rates and tours by prior arrangement.
Free admission: Teachers, Military personnel and dependents (with valid ID), and Children 6 years old and younger.
