DIRECTIONS: From downtown, take Franklin Street east to Capitol Square. Turn left onto 9th Street, then take the second right onto Marshall Street. Turn left onto 10th Street. The entrance to the parking lot is located just past the corner of 10th and Marshall Street on your right.

From I-95 North or South, take exit 74C, Broad Street. Go west on Broad Street to 11th Street and turn right. Take the second left onto Clay Street. Proceed to 10th Street. Turn left onto 10th Street.  The entrance to the parking lot is located just past the corner of 10th and Clay Street on your left.

From I-64 Westbound, take the 5th Street exit. Turn left onto Marshall Street and proceed to 10th Street. Turn left onto 10th Street.  The entrance to the parking lot is located just past the corner of 10th and Marshall Street on your right.

From I-64 Eastbound, take I-95 South to the 3rd Street exit. Turn left onto Marshall Street and proceed to 10th Street. Turn left onto 10th Street.  The entrance to the parking lot is located just past the corner of 10th and Marshall Street on your right.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Located in the heart of historic downtown Richmond, The Valentine has been collecting, preserving and interpreting Richmond’s 400-year history for over a century through exhibitions, guided city tours, events and stewardship of the Wickham House.

The museum has amassed an extensive collection of costumes, textiles, objects, photographs, artwork and ephemera related to the region's 400-year history.

PARKING:  Available in the Valentine's lot, accessible from 10th Street between E. Marshall and E. Clay. Please check in with the parking attendant and ask reception to validate your parking before leaving the Valentine.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Brick exterior paths.  Carpet inside.  Courtyard path has steep grades requiring assistance for persons in wheelchairs.  

ENTRANCE:  Front entrance 11 steps, rear no exterior steps.  Entry doors, 36 in. wide, easily open out with pull handle 36 in. above floor. 

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  At courtyard.  Doors are 35 in. wide, open in.  No turns to enter.  Accessible stall has handrails, no door.  19 in. toilet seat height, 11 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 34 in.  Pipes wrapped.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.

Inside museum.  Doors are 32 in. wide, and open out.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 33 in. wide doors opening out, handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, and 15 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height is 31 in.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.  Unisex/companion assisted rest room available at cafe.

ELEVATOR:  Wheelchair accessible elevator.  Interior of car is 80 in. by  50 in.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing disabilities, there are written scripts, audio tapes and Assistive Listening System available.

For guests with visual disabilities, there are signs with contrasting background printed on a non-glossy surface.

For guests with mobility disabilities, wheelchairs are available. 

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:  Garnett’s Café has sandwich combinations and freshly baked desserts. Serving lunch and sweets Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Indoor and garden seating. Table height 27-28 in.  Aisles between tables 32 in. wide.  

GIFT SHOP:  The Valentine Store offers a selection of products featuring many local artisans. You will find books, jewelry, home accessories, notecards, children’s items and much more. Aisles 34 in. wide.  Counters 48 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Accepted credit cards:  MC, V, AE and DS.  Admission fee.  Hours of operation:  10-5 Tue-Sun. Closed Mon. except major Monday holidays. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, and Presidents Day.
