DIRECTIONS: From North: I-95S/I-64, Exit Boulevard, right on Boulevard to West Broad Street, left on West Broad Street--museum is two blocks on left.
From South:  I-95/I-64, Exit Boulevard, left on Hermitage Road to West Broad Street, right on West Broad Street--museum is ahead on right.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Science Museum of Virginia mission: Inspiring Virginians to enrich their lives through science. The Museum has become the premier center for hands-on science education in Virginia. The Museum has permanent exhibitions on health, energy and natural science and includes hundreds of interactive exhibits, fascinating artifacts, live animals, a theater company and cutting edge technology. The IMAX®DOME creates the ultimate "you are there" experience with the largest film screen in Virginia wrapped around you. The Museum also features visitng exhibitions, educational programming, overnight adventures, lectures, demonstrations and summer camps.

PARKING: 12 wheelchair accessible parking spaces at least 96 inches wide with 96 inch access aisle between spaces.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Concrete, with slight grade from parking lot.

ENTRANCE:  Front of building.   Automatic doors, 34 in. wide.  Interior steps located various places.  Handrails.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  1st and 2nd floors.  Doors are 35 in. wide, open out.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 33 in. wide doors opening out, handrails.  Sink height 34 in.  Accessible stall checked for obstructions. Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.
ELEVATOR:  Wheelchair accessible elevator.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing disabilities,there are signing interpreters available with advance notice.  Some written scripts available.

For guests with visual disabilities, there are hands-on exhibits such as      gem and mineral exhibit with description in braille, and Knox Chapman exhibit for the blind.  Elevators equipped with braille markings.  There are documents in large print on non-glossy surfaces.

For guests with mobility disabilities, the Museum has a limited number of manual and motorized wheelhairs available for guests. Please contact us at 804-864-1400 or visit Guest Services for details.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES: The cafe, the Periodic Table, has a variety of fresh deli sandwiches, salads, barbecue, kid-friendly items and desserts. There are 9 tables for customers in wheelchairs.  Table height 29 in.  Aisles vary in. width.

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 33 in. wide.  Counters 37 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  MC and V accepted.  Admission fee and fees for IMAX films.  Planetarium show is free with exhibit admission.  Hours: Tues-Sat 9:30 - 5. Open Mon. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Sun. 11:30- 5.
