DIRECTIONS: In Capitol Square, between 9th and Governor Streets.  Enter Capitol Square on foot through the gate at 9th and Grace Streets.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Visitors revel in the rich history and charming stories of the Executive Mansion. The oldest, continuously occupied governor's residence in the United States, this Federal-style structure has been the home of Virginia Governors and their families since 1813.

The Mansion, which is both a Virginia and National Historic Landmark, was restored and furnished with antiques in the early 20th century. The original rooms across the front of the mansion contain most of their original woodwork, plaster cornices, and ornamental ceilings. During the Civil War, the Mansion served as the center of state leadership, when Richmond was the Capitol of the Confederate States of America.

PARKING:  2 designated accessible parking spaces.  Located in Capitol Square or on mansion grounds.  Parking space 7 ft. wide. Parking near the Executive Mansion is available for persons with disabilities only by request and may be arranged when booking a tour.

A limited number of metered public parking spaces (2 hours) are located on the west side of 10th Street, between Main and Bank Streets; on Bank Street, between Governor and 14th Streets; on the south side of Main Street, between 9th and 12th Streets; and on 12th Street between Main and Bank Streets.

Paid parking lots and garages are located nearby on 8th and Grace Street and 7th and Marshall Streets. Downloadable maps of nearby parking lots and decks are available, as well as rates for these areas.

TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION:  Paths  accessible to persons with mobility disabilities.

ENTRANCE:  Located in front of house or on side with elevator.  8 exterior steps, each 2 in. high.  Handrails on left/right.  Ramps provided.  Entry doors, opened by Docent. If entering on side with elevator, there are no steps.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Located on touring floor, but we ask that people use the restroom at the Capitol if at all possible.  Turns to enter.    Wrapped pipes.  Accessible stalls checked regularly for obstructions.

ELEVATOR:   Serves all levels from basement.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing disabilities, signing interpreters are available with advance notice.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Please contact the Executive Mansion for the current tour schedule. Tours are generally given Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tours are at no cost to the public.  We recommend appointments for 10 or more people, however, tours are subject to cancel if the Governor’s schedule conflicts. Walk-ups for tours are welcome.
