Located in Prince Edward County near the headwaters of the Appomattox River, Farmville is the home of Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College, one of the oldest colleges in the country.
The city is also one of the entrances to High Bridge Trail State Park, an accessible multi-use trail ideally suited for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. The centerpiece is the 2,400-foot long High Bridge, that is 160 feet above the Appomattox River.
