DIRECTIONS: From U.S. 29 North/South, follow 29 Danville expressway/ bypass to 58 West. At second stop light turn left onto Main Street Bridge; take next left onto Craghead street. Science Center is one mile on left.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A division of the Science Museum of Virginia, the Danville Science Center is a vibrant hands on learning facility located in a renovated 1899 train station still functioning as an active Amtrak Station. The Science Center is complemented by a Butterfly Seasonal Greenhouse, hiking trails and an outdoor pavilion.
PARKING: 2 designated accessible parking spaces, located north end of building. Accessible parking space 8 ft. wide. Accessible aisle 5 ft. wide. Nearby ramps well marked.
TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION: Concrete, brick and asphalt. Paths accessible to persons with mobility disabilities. Length of paths from 20 yds. to 2.2 miles.
ENTRANCE: Wheelchair accessible entrance in lobby. (East facing doors.) Handrails on left/right. Ramps provided. 2 entry doors, 64 in. wide, easily open out with push bar inside and lever handle outside located 36 in. above floor. Steps inside located behind elevator. Handrails.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: In lobby area. Available without steps. Doors 36 in. wide, open out. No turns to enter. 19 in. toilet seat height, 11 in. between commode and wall. Sink height 30 in. Wrapped pipes. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions. Unisex or companion assisted rest rooms available.
ELEVATOR: Immediately off of lobby. Serves all levels. Door width 40 in. Control buttons 36 in. high. Elevator car interior is 56 in. by 82 in. Buttons in braille and raised. Door stays open 15 seconds. Audible floor change signal.
PUBLIC TELEPHONE: Accessible phones in lobby. Lowered phones. Numbers raised.

For guests with hearing disabilities, written scripts are available.
For guests with visual disabilities, there are hands-on exhibits that focus on basic science principles. Signs with contrasting background, printed on a non-glossy surface. Increased wattage lighting in exhibit areas.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES: Vending area on lower level. Picnic tables most accessible to wheelchairs located behind Science Center.
GIFT SHOP: Aisles 60 in. wide. Counters 36 in. high. Aisles clear of temporary displays.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Credit Cards Accepted: V and MC. Admission fee. Group rates available. Hours of operation: Tu - Sat 9:30 AM - 5 PM, Sundays May-Oct 1 PM - 5 PM. Closed Mondays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
