Chester is in Chesterfield County and has the distiction of having the second successful English settlement in the New World (after Jamestown in 1607).
Established in 1611 the Citie of Henricus is south of Richmond. Today at Henricus Historical Park, visitors can explore the recreated town and interact with costumed interpreters. Special programs throughout 2011 spotlight the lives of the English Settlers and Virginia Indians of Henricus and the surrounding area.
Chester's original "downtown" was is defined by being a stop on the Richmond and Petersburg railroad. The Chester Station was destroyed during the American Civil War.
