DIRECTIONS: I-64 to Scottsville Exit, left at stoplight onto Rte 53, Monticello on left.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Designed by Thomas Jefferson, this mountaintop plantation includes the main house, original furnishings, gardens, Jefferson’s grave and a gift shop.
PARKING: 10 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.
TYPES OF PATHS: Paths are brick and gravel, some with steep grades requiring assistance for persons in wheelchairs. Paths are 200 ft. long.
ENTRANCE: In front of house. 6 exterior steps, each 4 in. in height. Wheelchair lift available. Glass entry doors, 26 in. wide, easily open in with clearly marked round handle located 34 in. above floor.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: In admission building and under house. Doors open in. Turns to enter. Accessible stalls have 27 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails. Wheelchair accessible toilet is 19 inches high with room for a lateral transfer. Sink height 31 in. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions. Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.

For guests with hearing disabilities,there are signing interpreters available with advance notice. Written scripts are available.
For guests with visual disabilities,there are hands-on exhibits. May request a hands on tour prior to your visit, or braille tour guide (text and English). Documents in large print on non-glossy surface.
For guests with mobility disabilities,there is a special guide book.
GIFT SHOP: Aisles 24-36 in. wide. Counters 29 in. high. Clerks assist customers with special needs. Ramp and automatic door.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Admission fee. Hours: 8-5, Mar 1-Oct 31, 9-4:30 rest of year. Closed Christmas Day.
