DIRECTIONS: I-95 N take Washington St.(Exit 50) Turn left onto Washington St, right onto Sycamore, down to Old Town, turn right onto Old Street. Tour begins at Petersburg Visitors Center.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Built 1817, one of the oldest banks in America. Here, in one of the oldest surviving bank buildings in America, you can see its heavy safe which was kept in the cashier's office during banking hours and lowered through the floor to the vault below at night. It features a restored period kitchen and courtyard. The bank survived the Civil War by printing its own money but closed in 1865.
PARKING: 3 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.
TYPES OF PATHS: Concrete and brick pathways approximately 3-4 feet wide have steep grades which would require assistance for persons in wheelchairs. Paths are 20-40 ft. long.
ENTRANCE: Located in front of building on Bollingbrook Street. 2 exterior steps, each 8 in. in height. Entry doors, 52 in. wide, easily open in with knob handle located 36 in. above floor.
