From I-64 take Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport Exit (255B). Right at Bland Blvd. (3rd light), right on airport driveway. From Rte. 17 South, right on Denbigh Blvd, go approximately 5 miles, left on McManus Blvd., right on Bland Blvd. and left on airport driveway. www.nnwairport.com
PARKING: Complimentary parking to individuals with proper vehicle identification. 7 wheelchair accessible parking spaces at least 96 inches wide.
ENTRANCE: Top of steps from accessible parking. 25 exterior steps. Ramps and incline elevator or provided. Automatic doors. Entry doors open side to side.
FACILITIES: Steps from entry level to the restaurant and lounge.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Located on left and right. No steps. Doors are 55-in. wide, and are open. Turns to enter. Accessible stalls have 36-in. wide doors opening out and handrails. Sink height is 34-in. Sensor controlled flush valves, water faucets and hand dryers. Pipes are wrapped. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.
PHONES: Wheelchair accessible public phone. Amplified public phone. TTY available at public phones.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE: Located before boarding areas. There are 30 tables, 31-in. high, with 3-ft. aisles between tables.
GIFT SHOP: Aisle 56-in. Clerks assist customers with special needs. Aisles clear of temporary displays.
ELEVATOR: Wheelchair accessible elevator with sound indicator.
PROCEDURES: Each airline has procedures for tickets, luggage, boarding and exiting and wheelchairs available for persons with mobility disabilities. Skycaps are available for assistance.
AIRPORT SECURITY PROCEDURES: If a person is ambulatory or able to get out of a wheelchair, security personnel will use a hand wand. If the person uses a wheelchair, security personnel will ask for consent to conduct a pat-down search. Security personnel will assist customers with visual disabilities in placing luggage on the x-ray unit. Security personnel will use a hand want as an alternative to the metal detector. Customers with hearing disabilities have ample signage explaining procedures. Personnel have materials for written communication available. Link to the TSA for latest security regulation updates.
