Eastern end of Colonial Parkway.  Follow signs to Visitor Center (Exit 242 off I-64)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Restored mansion of Georgian architecture. Home of Thomas Nelson, Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Governor of Virginia, and commander of the Virginia Militia during the siege of Yorktown.

PARKING:  Located side of road.

TYPES OF PATHS:  One step onto path to house, no curb.  Grass off street parking, but grass incline to avoid step to path.  The paths are brick and steps to garden do have steep grades which would require assistance for persons in wheelchairs.  Paths are 150 yards long.

ENTRANCE:  Located back of house, 100 ft. from roadside.  10 exterior steps, each 4-7 in. in height (stair track machine).  Doors easily opened.  Entry doors, 43 in. wide.  Steps inside lobby, located back of house.  Each step is 6-7 in. high.  Handrails on left. 

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with mobility disabilities, there is a stair track machine- available with 1 hour notice.  Pictures of upstairs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Open daily in summer.  10-4:30 weekdays, 1-4:30 spring and fall.
