Poquoson is an independent city located in the Hampton Roads area. It is one of the oldest continuously named cities in Virginia. It is also one of the few to retain a name which derived from the Native Americans who inhabited the area before colonization by the English began in the 17th century/ Poquoson is a Native American word which roughly translates to "great marsh" or "flat land."
It is a close-knit community in York County where boating has been an important part of Poquoson's economy since its inception. It has a wonderful playground called Kid's Island that is completely accessible for children using wheelchairs.
Poquoson is a quaint seafood village bound by 60 miles of shore line, making it a fisherman’s dream.
