GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Voted the "Best Small Museum" in 2008 by the reader's of "HamptonRoads" magazine, the Hampton Roads Naval Museum introduces visitors to over 234 years of U.S. Naval history in Hampton Roads, Virginia. One of 12 officially operated U.S. Navy museums, reporting to the Naval History and Heritage Command, the museum houses a rich collection of authentic uniforms, weaponry, underwater artifacts, detailed ship models and artwork. The Hampton Roads Naval Museum is located on the second level of Nauticus.

PARKING: 3 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Sidewalks and ramps to large dock.

ENTRANCE: Front of building.  Ramp provided.  Glass entry doors, 70 in. wide, easily open out with clearly marked handles 48 in. above floor.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  First floor.  Doors 35 in. wide, open in.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 34 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, 10 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 35 in.  Pipes wrapped.  Accessible stall checked  for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.

ELEVATOR:  Wheelchair accessible elevator with sound indicator.  Interior of car is 72 in. by 80 in.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities, hands-on exhibits can be arranged with education specialist.  

For guest with mobility disabilities,the paths are carpet, and do not have steep grades requiring assistance for persons in wheelchairs.  There are lowered drinking fountains.   

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:  First floor.  50 tables accessible to wheelchairs.  Table height 31 in.  Aisles between tables 35 in. wide.

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 50 in. wide.  Counters 36 in. high.  Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Accessible change machine and lockers.  Museum is free, admission fee for Nauticus.  Open 10-5 Tu-Sun.  Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Extended summer hours.
