Located in the center of the hub of the Hampton Roads region, Smithfield is the "Ham Capital of the World" and is known for its historic architecture, which can be appreciated on the popular Smithfield Historic District Walking Tours. The town was first colonized in 1634 by early settlers of Jamestown.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Historic St. Luke's Church is the oldest  surviving church of English foundation in America and the only original Gothic church building surviving from the colonial period.

PARKING: 2 wheelchair accessible parking spaces in front of gift shop.

TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION: Brick paving. Paths accessible to persons with mobility disabilities.  Steep grades may require assistance for persons in wheelchairs.  Length of paths 400'.

ENTRANCE:  Front of church.  1 entry door, opened by docent.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Attached to gift shop.  Doors 34 in. wide, open out.  No turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 32 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, 12 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 33 in.  Wrapped pipes.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions. 

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities, there are signs with contrasting background.   

GIFT SHOP:  Ramp at entry.  Counters 34 in. high.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Hours:  Tu-Sat - 9:30-4, Sun - 1-4.  Free admission.  Closed Christmas and the month of January.

Historic St. Luke's ChurchHistoric St. Luke's Church

Historic St. Luke's Church, c. 1632, affectionately known as "the Old Brick", is the "Oldest surviving church of English foundation in America" and the only original Gothic church in the USA. Originally an Anglican church, after the Revolutionary War it was consecrated Episcopal. British Soldiers and Confederates camped under our great oaks. If you are a history buff and love old churches, please make sure to stop by Historic St. Luke's Church.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  History museum housed in the former Bank of Smithfield, built in 1913.

PARKING:  Located adjacent to museum.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Paved parking lot belonging to bank has some incline.  Level sidewalk to accessible entrance.

ENTRANCE:  Glass entry doors open out with clearly marked brass handle.  Handrails.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Doors open in.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.  Unisex and/or companion assisted rest room available at the public rest room.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with mobility disabilities, there are ramps where needed. 
For guests with visual disabilities, there are documents in large print on non-glossy surface.

GIFT SHOP:  Clerks assist customers with special needs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  No admission fee.  Open 10-4 Tu-Sat and 1-5 Sun.
