DIRECTIONS: From I-81 take exit 143/I-581 to downtown Roanoke.  Take exit 6/Elm Ave. off I-581.  Turn right at end of exit ramp onto Elm Ave. Pass hospital, take left at second light onto Jefferson St.  Turn left at 4th stop light onto Walnut Ave.  Follow Walnut Ave. up Mill Mountain, will become Parkway Spur Road.  Turn right at Mill Mountain Park sign.  Zoo is located to the left of the parking area.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Features 55 species of exotic and native animals on a 10 acre site.  On top of Roanoke's Mill Mountain, off the Blue Ridge Parkway and alongside the famous Roanoke Star, is an AZA accredited five acre zoo that exhibits 50 plus species of mammals, birds and reptiles. Animals include a Siberian Tiger, Snow Leopards, Red Pandas, Japanese Macaques, Bald Eagle and much more. Special events and educational programs throughout the year, picnic facilities, wildflower garden and a breathtaking overlook view of the Roanoke Valley.

PARKING:  Located end of driveway.  Spaces are unmarked and everything is one level.

TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION:  Asphalt.  Steep grades may require assistance for persons in wheelchairs.  Length of paths 2 miles.

ENTRANCE:  Located end of driveway.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Located central left side (from entrance).    Doors 33 in. wide.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 32 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, 12 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 30 in.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities, there are signs in large print, with contrasting background, printed on a non-glossy surface. 

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:  In center of zoo.  4 tables for guests in wheelchairs.  Table height 29 in.  Aisles between tables 42 in. wide.   Menus are in large print and printed on non glossy surface.

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 46 in. wide.  Counters 37 in. high.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.  Step located at entrance and cashier area. Mill Mountain Zoo has a great gift shop offering a variety of children’s toys, t-shirts, hats, artwork and souvenirs for you or to give as a gift to someone special. All profits benefit the Zoo’s education and conservation efforts

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Admission fee.  Group rates and senior discounts available.  Open daily-year round (closed December 25th) hours 10-5. Gates close at 4 p.m. No pets allowed. Service animal owners must check in with Zoo administration office.
