DIRECTIONS: One mile south of Middletown, Va. on U.S. Rte 11.  From I-66 take I-81 North to exit 302 - west on Rte 627 to U.S. Rte 11.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Once described as "the most splendid building west of the Blue Ridge," Belle Grove Plantation was the home of Major Isaac Hite, Jr. and his wife Nelly Conway Madison, sister of President James Madison. Architecturally inspired by Thomas Jefferson and completed in 1797,

Belle Grove has been a focus of Valley life for more than two centuries. Located at the epicenter of the 1864 Battle of Cedar Creek, Belle Grove features compelling Early American and Civil War history, a fine period decorative arts collection, and breathtaking mountain views. Belle Grove's Museum Shop specializes in unique books and gifts inspired by 18th and early 19th century Virginia plantation life.

PARKING:  3 designated accessible parking spaces located near  entrance on right side of building.  Parking space 13 ft. wide.  RV parking. 

TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION:  Gravel, brick walkways.  Paths  accessible to persons with mobility disabilities.  Steep grades may require assistance for persons in wheelchairs.  Length of path is 500 feet to entrance.

ENTRANCE:  Front of building.  12 exterior wooden steps, each 8 in. high.  Handrails on left/right.  1 entry door, 48 in. wide, easily opens out with brass knob handle. 

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:   Located back of building - enter from outside.   Doors 32 in. wide, open in.  Turns to enter.  Large one room wheelchair accessible rest room,with handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, 14 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 36 in.  Unisex or companion assisted rest rooms available.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing disabilities, written scripts are available.

For guests with visual disabilities, there are hands-on exhibits such as historic clothes, tools and cooking utensils.  Signs in large print, with contrasting background, printed on a non-glossy surface. 

GIFT SHOP:  Located 6 steps down in basement.  Aisles 45 in. wide.  Counters floor level to 6 ft. high.  Aisles clear of temporary displays. Shop our on-line store which is always accessible.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Hours:  Open daily March 18 - October 29, 2017 Mon-Sat 10:00 AM -4:00 PM (last tour 3:15); Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m. (last tour 4:15)  Cost:  Admission fee. Belle Grove Members - free. Closed December 31 - March 17, 2018.

Guided tours typically last between 45 minutes and one hour.  We strongly suggest that you allow time to tour the outbuildings, visit the Museum Shop, and enjoy the spectacular landscape.  Picnic tables on the lawn are available for visitor use.
