Harrisonburg

Harrisonburg is surrounded by scenic Rockingham County and offers visitors a variety of cultural treats, unique flavors, and incredible outdoor recreation. The city was settled in 1737 by Thomas Harrison and grew up around several natural springs. Today, that history comes alive in Harrisonburg’s historic downtown established as one of Virginia’s first Cultural Arts Districts . With James Madison University, Eastern Mennonite University, and Bridgewater College, the city offers visitors a wide selection of concerts, plays, art exhibits, and lectures generally associated with larger municipalities.
