On Rte 28, 1/2 mile north of Rte 50 in Chantilly, VA.

PARKING:  5 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Federal period Lee family home with gardens, outbuildings, new slave quarter andmuseum shop.  Guided tours, living history programs and special events.

TYPES OF PATHS:  Brick to schoolhouse, gift shop and outbuildings to the main house.  Some have steep grades requiring assistance for persons in wheelchairs.  Dirt paths to the formal flower garden,  kitchen garden and slave quarter.

ENTRANCE:  5 exterior steps, each 8 in. in height.  Handrails on left and rt.  Entry doors are opened by staff who greet all guests.  Vertical lift located outside front of house, provides access from ground level to house entrance and first floor.  Photograph tour book with interpretive information available for guests with disabilities.  Interior steps in lobby, located in hallway.  Each step is 6 in. high and marked with tactile strip/color change.  Handrails.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Under gift shop, log school house.  Doors 33 in. wide, open out.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 30 in. wide doors opening out and handrails.  19 in. toilet seat height, and 11 in. between commode edge and wall.  Sink height is 31 in.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with hearing disabilities, there are tours in American Sign Language and signing interpreters available with advance notice.  Written scripts available in braille, English, Spanish, German, French and Japanese. 
For guests with visual disabilities,there are hands-on exhibits such as a “Touch Basket” with different reproduction artifacts that can be touched and identified.  Signs printed on non-glossy surface. 
For guests with mobility disabilities,there is a photo album of rooms on upper level available. 

GIFT SHOP:  Aisles 65 in. wide.  Counters 36 in. high. Clerks assist customers with special needs.  Aisles clear of temporary displays.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Credit cards MC and V.  Admission fee.  Open year round:  11-4 Wed-Mon Mar-Dec, 11-3:30 Wed-Mon Jan-Feb.  Closed Tuesdays and some holidays.
