DIRECTIONS:  Located 3 miles North of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.  Turn West on Rte 704.  Park entrance 1/2 mile.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  A 540 acre park at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.  Offering full-service picnicking, swimming, fishing, hiking and environmental education.  1000 ft. fishing pier is 24 hour accessible in-season, with modified hrs. in off-season.  4 designated parking spaces, and concrete walkway around pier.  Dual lane boat ramp is 24 hour accessible in-season, with modified hrs. in off-season.  3 designated parking spaces, and accessible ramp to 120 ft. courtesy dock.

PARKING:  8 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

TYPES OF PATHS:  2 of 4 dune walkways are accessible, one approx. 1,100 ft. long and the second descending over a 20 ft. high bluff.  Paths are packed dirt on an old road bed,with no steep grades.  Trails are 1 mile long.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Located at waterfront.  Doors 36 in. wide, open out.  Turns to enter.  Accessible stalls have 36 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails.  Wheelchair accessible toilet 19 inches high with room for lateral transfer.  Sink height 34 in.  Pipes wrapped.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities,  there are signs in large print on a non-glossy surface. 

For guests with mobiiity disabilities, a free beach wheelchair is available on request. Those interested should inquire at the park office or camp store or speak with the  waterfront attendant.

The Hawk Observatoryand the beach bathhouse are ADA-accessible.  

PICNIC AREAS:  Two 20 ft.x40 ft. shelters.  Picnic area has several 28 in. high tables for guests in wheelchairs.  Aisle width varies.  5 ft. concrete walkways to each shelter and new accessible restroom.

Both picnic shelters are ADA-accessible as is a concrete walkway connecting the shelters to the picnic bathhouse, which is ADA-accessible.

There are two accessible parking spaces at shelter 1 and one at shelter 2.

CAMPGROUND                                                    

BATH HOUSE/REST ROOMS:  Located main campground (sites 1-94 and primitive sites 95-141).  Doors are 36 in. wide, and open out.  Turns must be made to enter. Wheelchair accessible toilet 19 inches high with room for lateraltransfer.  Accessible stalls have 36 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails.  Sink height is 29 in.  Roll-in shower.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions. 

The two campground bathhouses are ADA accessible. Bald Eagle Bluff walkway is ADA-compliant up to the beach overlook but does not allow universally accessible beach access.

DESCRIPTION OF CAMP SITE:  Camping spaces have electrical, water, sewer and cable TV hook-ups.  Personnel are available to assist with hook-up.  Pull thru sites are available.  Other amenities include:  level grass sites, wheelchair accessible sites including pedestal grill and accessible picnic table at 3 different sites.

Elecrtic and water site #44 is adjacent to bathhouse 1. Tent sites 110 and 141 are beside bathhouse 2. Sites have a raised fire-ring and an extended top picnic table.  

PICNIC AREAS:  Picnic areas have one table for guests in wheelchairs,   28 in. high located at Gazebo.  The aisles between the tables vary.  The paths to and within the picnic areas are grass.

BOATING AND FISHING: The fishing pier is ADA-accessible up to the fishing-cleaning station. The pier has a firm surface of dirt, gravel and grass. There are two handicapped-only parking spaces at the boat ramp, one such space at the fishing pier and one by the Wood Warbler Boardwalk.

LODGES: Only Lodge 1 is ADA accessible. Call 1-800-933-7275 for reservations.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:   Accepted credit cards V and MC.  Park fees: www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/parkfees.shtml. Day use and overnight guest visitation, 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. Pier open 24 hours a day April 1 - Dec. 31.

Although motorized vehicles are not permitted on park trails, electric wheelchairs and electric scooters that meet the federal definition for wheelchairs are allowed to enable people with disabilities to use the trails.
