DIRECTIONS: Old train depot and museum at corner of Mecklenburg and W Main.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Located in the restored Historic Depot: the HO model trains represent over 200 miles of fun tracks in Virginia known as the Wiggle, Bump and Agony. You will also see the Atlantic & Danville Model R.R. which is the focal point of the museum. The A&D is a scale model of the trains and towns, circa 1950, as it ran through South Hill encompassing the route from Lawrenceville to Clarksville, VA. Fun for everyone so come visit our museum.

PARKING:  1 wheelchair accessible parking space on Main Street, at front doors, 45 ft. from entrance.   Nearby ramps well marked.

TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND ATTRACTION:  Brick and asphalt, 4 ft. wide, even terrain.  Paths accessible to persons with mobility disabilities.  Length of paths 45 ft., no curbs.

ENTRANCE:  Located Mecklenburg and W Main Street side of building.  3 exterior steps, each 7 in. high.  Handrails on left/rt.  2 entry doors, 35 in. wide, open out with push and knob handle located 34 in. above floor.  Ramp to push-open door (outside), knob inside.  Ramp is wooden, 49 in wide with 1 turn.  Handrail outside for steps and ramp.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  In train museum.  Doors 34 in. wide, open out.  No turns to enter.  Accessible stalls 37 in. wide, no  doors.  19 in. toilet seat height, 12 in. between commode and wall.  Sink height 31 in.  Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.  Unisex or companion assisted rest rooms available.  Paper towels on sink and in mounted dispenser.  Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on door to designate men or women.

SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities, there are signs with contrasting background, printed on a non-glossy surface. 

For guests with mobility disabilities, there are lowered drinking fountains.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Open daily 9-4.  No admission fee, but donations accepted. Postcards for sale.  Clean, well-lit areas.  Vinyl floor in museum.  Very friendly, helpful and informative staff.  Antiques and historical artifacts from surrounding area.
Building also is headquarters for South Hill Chamber of Commerce and South Hill Community Development Association.
