DIRECTIONS:  20 miles from downtown Richmond, VA. From Interstate 95, take Exit 58B onto Woods Edge Road. Travel .7 mile to US Route 1. Travel south on US Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) 1.5 miles to Swift Creek Mill Theatre on the left. The entrance is just before the bridge crossing Swift Creek.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Swift Creek Mill Theatre is a newly renovated destination housed in a 350-year-old landmark; features optional Virginia-Style Buffet and award-winning productions.

PARKING:  2 designated accessible parking spaces, 8 ft.  wide with access aisle that is  approximately 3 feet. The parking lot is level with the theatre entrance so no ramp is needed.

TYPE OF PATH AROUND ATTRACTION: Paved.  Paths easily accessible for persons with mobility disabilities and no assistance is needed.

ENTRANCE:  Directly in front of parking lot. 2 doors open inward left door.  Door width is greater than 36 inches.  Height of door handle located at center of door, high 36 in.  The type of door handle is a knob on center door.  Doors easily opened. There are steps in the theatre between floors.  Steps are approximately 8 inches each. The location of inside steps are at the left of building, behind left entry door in stairwell Handrails with interior steps and steps clearly marked by tread change or color change at the top and bottom of each step.

PUBLIC REST ROOMS:  Accessible public rest rooms are located on the main level.  Door width is greater than 36 inches.  Door opens in.  There are turns when entering rest room. Wheelchair stall has 36 inch door that opens out and handrails.  Toilet seat is 19 inches high and there is 8 inches between commode and wall. Sink height is approximately 36 inches. There are no obstructions when accessing accessible stall and is checked regularly for obstructions. Rest rooms are identified by a raised figure with pants or skirt on the door to designate men or women.

ELEVATOR:   Located at left side of building, approximately 20 feet from left entry door.  Door width is approximately 48 inches.  Button height is 36 inches.  Elevator car interior size is about 4 feet by 6 feet.  Buttons in braille and raised buttons.  Length of time door stays open 6+ seconds. Audible signals for floor changes.

SPECIAL SERVICES:  Assistive Listening Devices, facility orientation, A/V monitors in the lobbies and large print materials are available, with plans to include captioning and audio description in the near future.

For guests with hearing disabilities, written scripts available depending on production. Infared Assistive Listening System available, FM Loop, and pendant-style with ear buds available.


For guests with visual disabilities, hands-on exhibits are under development at this time.  History exhibit research is currently underway. Signs in large print and signs printed with a sharp contrast to background color. Some signs printed on a non-glossy surface.

For guests with mobility disabilities, written material to assist wheelchair guests to find fastest and easiest route to where they want to go in the facility.  Pre-seating may be available, inquire upon arrival.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE FACILITIES:  Located on the main and lower Level.  The dining area on the main level is accessible to wheelchairs.  Tables for guests with wheelchairs are available.  Table height is approximately 30 inches.  Width of aisles between tables varies based on the number of guests.  Menus available in large print and printed on non-glossy surface. To assist persons with vision loss, there increased wattage lighting in the dining area compared to previous “vintage” lighting.

GIFT SHOP:   Height of counters is approximately 48 inches.  Aisles are clear of temporary displays.

STAFF TRAINING:  Staff has been trained to serve guests with hearing, mobility and visual disabilities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Office hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am to 7 pm year ‘round. During a production, evening performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 pm. Matinees are available on select Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2:30 pm. Theatre opens 30 minutes prior to show time. Dining room opens two hours prior to performance.

Theatre Only = $38 plus service fee; Buffet & Theatre = $55 plus service fee and tax. Reservations are recommended for Theatre Only and required for Buffet and Theatre. Meal includes appetizer, main course, dessert, freshly baked bread and coffee, tea or water. (Sodas, spirits and gratuity are additional.)
