GENERAL DESCRIPTION: New Virginia State Park offering fishing, boating, camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking, and outdoor relaxation.
PARKING: At all 6 of the covered shelters and 3 rest rooms. 9 designated accessible parking spaces. Parking space 8 ft. wide. Accessible aisle 5 ft. wide. Nearby ramps are well marked. RV parking.
TYPES OF PATHS TO OR AROUND PARK/ATTRACTION: Hiking, biking and horseback riding. Paths/trails do have steep grades which would require assistance for persons in wheelchairs. Trails vary, total 16 miles.
ENTRANCE TO VISITOR CENTER: Located next to park office in center of park. Exterior steps. Handrails on left/right. Ramps provided. 2 glass entry doors, 32 in. wide, easily open out with clearly marked knob handle located 37 in. above floor.
PUBLIC REST ROOMS: Vault toilets located at each campground, and 3 rest rooms with running water and flushing toilets at various locations throughout park. Available without steps. Doors are 36 in. wide, open out. Turns to enter. Accessible stalls have 37 in. wide doors opening out, and handrails. 19 in. toilet seat height. 10 in. between commode and wall. Sink height 34 in. Wrapped pipes. Accessible stall checked regularly for obstructions.
SPECIAL SERVICES:
For guests with visual disabilities: Signs in large print, with contrasting background, printed on a non-glossy surface.
For guests with mobility disabilities, a wheelchair lift and 2 modified wagons to accommodate wheelchairs are available for use. Wagons are tractor drawn and give a ride around the park to include a trail experience.
PICNIC AREAS: Located through out 1,500 acre park. 4 open picnic areas, 6 large covered shelters and one small shelter with a fireplace. There are 96 tables for guests in wheelchairs, tables 29 in. high. Tables located at all shelters, picnic areas and campsites. 52 in. aisles between the tables. Paths to and within the picnic areas are concrete sidewalks.
GIFT SHOP: Counters 29 in. high. Aisles clear of temporary displays.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Parking is free to vehicles displaying a handicap window tag or license plate.
